Sarasota Paradise buried Greenville Triumph 6-0 on Sept. 19 at Premier Sports Campus, setting what the club called the largest home victory in USL League One history.
Five players scored, and several contributed more than once as the Paradise extended its unbeaten streak to six games. The expansion club, in its first USL League One season, is fighting for a playoff spot with only a few regular-season matches remaining.
Early goals put Paradise in control
Anderson Rosa opened the scoring in the third minute. Brendan Krueger switched the ball to the left side, Jonathan Bolanos played Rosa through on goal, and Rosa beat Greenville goalkeeper Amal Knight with a low, first-time finish. It was Rosa's team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Krueger doubled the lead minutes later, pouncing on a rebound after Knight parried a Romain Gall shot. Krueger also scored in the previous match, a performance that earned him USL League One Team of the Week honors.
Gall made the most of his first start. Gall, who earned his first U.S. men's national team call-up in 2018, curled a shot into the far corner in the 42nd minute for his first league goal with the club. He then set up Sander Røed's header just before halftime to make it 4-0.
"For me to get my first start, a goal and an assist and help the team to three points is the best feeling," Gall said after the match, according to the club's recap.
Second-half goals complete the rout
The second half brought more. Bolanos made it 5-0 in the 54th minute with his fifth goal of the season after Krueger won possession in Greenville's half and found him outside the box. Røed completed the rout with a chip over the rushing goalkeeper, his second goal of the night and fourth of the season. Rosa picked up the assist, his fifth of the campaign.
Paradise head coach Mika Elovaara said the six-game streak reflects daily work, not luck, adding that the team's togetherness is now showing on the scoreboard.
Academy signee makes professional debut
The blowout also produced a milestone. Lucas Fredericks, a 19-year-old forward from Sebring who signed a USL Academy contract in August, entered in the 87th minute for his professional debut. He became the fourth academy signee to appear with the Paradise first team.
The Paradise visits Portland Hearts of Pine at 5 p.m. EDT Sept. 26 on ESPN+.
