The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says a missing 15-year-old last seen at Braden River High School on Monday, Aug. 10, was spotted nearly three hours later at a gas station less than a mile away and left in a vehicle.
Zaniyrah Gilbert was seen at the RaceTrac at 6005 SR-70 E. in Bradenton at 2:57 p.m. that day, according to an update posted by the sheriff's office on X on Tuesday, Aug. 11. The agency released images of both Gilbert at the gas station and the vehicle she departed in but did not describe the vehicle's make, model or color in text.
Gilbert had initially been reported missing from Braden River High School, 6545 State Road 70 E., around noon on Aug. 10, according to the sheriff's office's original alert posted that same afternoon. The school and the RaceTrac sit less than a mile apart along the SR-70 corridor that runs through the Lakewood Ranch area.
She remains missing.
The sheriff's office described Gilbert as 4 feet 11 inches tall and approximately 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing blue overalls, a yellow hoodie and white Crocs with flamingos, and was carrying a purple and pink backpack.
The agency noted Gilbert has run away previously.
No update confirming Gilbert has been located had been posted as of Wednesday, Aug. 12. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information about Gilbert's whereabouts or the vehicle she was seen leaving in to call 941-747-3011.
