Male choir students from Lakewood Ranch High School will join singers from across Manatee County on Monday, Oct. 5, for the annual Men's Day event at Manatee High School.
The all-day event brings together male choir students from high schools throughout the School District of Manatee County to rehearse and perform two musical pieces, according to the LRHS student news outlet Mustangs Ahead.
Students get the opportunity to perform alongside singers from other Manatee County schools rather than only members of their own choir.
"It's one of the fun events that we get to do as a choir throughout the year," said Carrick Mahoney, a senior and co-president of the LRHS choir.
Singers prepare for countywide performance
The specific songs for the performance had not been announced to participating singers as of Oct. 1.
Men's Day is open to male singers in school choral programs, setting it apart from other choir events that include the full ensembles.
Senior Daxton Martin, an LRHS choir member who also writes for Mustangs Ahead, said in a late-September preview of the school's fall performing arts schedule that choir members were looking forward to performing alongside students from other Manatee County programs.
The event gives students a day to rehearse with a larger group before performing the music they learned together.
Winter concert follows in November
Men's Day is one of several performing arts events on Lakewood Ranch High School's fall calendar.
The LRHS choir's next major public event is its winter concert and Music Expo on Nov. 19.
