Lakewood Ranch volleyball swept Braden River 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 29, avenging a five-set loss to the Pirates earlier this season and pushing the Mustangs' winning streak to three matches.
The Mustangs won 25-21, 25-19, 25-17, holding the Pirates to fewer points each set, according to MaxPreps. The non-conference home match improved Lakewood Ranch's record to 13-8 and continued a strong run on the Mustangs' own court. Lakewood Ranch has won six of its last seven home matches.
Entering the match, the Mustangs were ranked No. 34 in Florida Class 6A and No. 31 in the Tampa area, per MaxPreps.
Tuesday's sweep reversed the result from Sept. 3, when Braden River beat Lakewood Ranch 3-2 in Bradenton with set scores of 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-12 and 15-8. In that loss, Adalynn Lund posted 15 digs, 11 kills and two aces, while Viviana Sprague added 14 digs and two aces. The Mustangs still fell in five sets.
This time, Lakewood Ranch never let the match get that far.
Lund, a setter and middle blocker, entered Tuesday's match leading the team in kills (88), total blocks (41), digs (123) and assists (160), per MaxPreps. Adrienne McMillan led in serving aces with 14, and Addison Kersey led in receptions with 116. Individual stats from the Braden River sweep were not yet available.
The three-game streak began with back-to-back wins over Sarasota and Hardee. Against Hardee on Thursday, Sept. 24, the Mustangs dropped the opening set 23-25 before winning the next three 25-11, 25-15 and 25-10, according to the Lakewood Ranch High School athletics page. That comeback victory brought the record to 12-8.
Braden River dropped to 6-8 with Tuesday's loss. The Pirates have lost six of their last eight road games.
