Lakewood Ranch residents can attend a free 9/11 commemoration, an outdoor movie screening and a 100-vendor farmers market all during the week of Sept. 10.
The busiest stretch runs Friday, Sept. 11, when two events anchor opposite ends of the day. A morning ceremony at Greenbrook Adventure Park marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and a Movie in the Park screening of "Tangled" lights up Waterside Park that evening. 9/11 Commemoration honors 25th anniversary
Lakewood Ranch Community Activities (LWRCA), with sponsorship from Veteran Air, hosts the 9/11 Commemoration: 25 Years of Remembrance from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Greenbrook Adventure Park Pavilion, 13010 Adventure Place. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Organizers will provide free coffee and donuts.
The Bradenton Times reported that LWRCA is accepting nominations for Lakewood Ranch residents who served in the response and recovery efforts after the 2001 attacks. Residents can submit a nomination by emailing [email protected] with the individual's name and their role during or after the attacks.
Movie in the Park screens "Tangled" Friday
At 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, Waterside Park at 7301 Island Cove Terrace hosts a free screening of "Tangled." Seating is first-come, first-served. Attendees should bring blankets or lawn chairs. Inflatables for kids open at 7 p.m., and concessions will be available.
Grace Community Church will hand out one free dipped frozen banana from Nana's Bananas to the first 163 people through the gate.
Farmers market returns with 100 vendors
The Farmers' Market at Lakewood Ranch returns 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Waterside Place, 1561 Lakefront Drive. More than 100 local vendors sell organic produce, flowers, honey, fresh bread, baked goods, prepared foods, pet products and jewelry. Live musicians perform lakeside, and a Kids' Zone keeps younger visitors busy.
More events fill out the week
The week opens Thursday, Sept. 10, with Casual Cornhole from 10 to 11 a.m. at Waterside Place, 7500 Island Cove Terrace. That evening, pianist Joe Thayer plays 6 to 9 p.m. at Remy's on Main, 8138 Lakewood Main St.
Karate Zoo, a martial-arts program for children, runs 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, at Bob Gardner Community Park, 2710 White Eagle Blvd.
Yoga in the Park meets 8 to 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Waterside Place, 7301 Island Cove Terrace. Sunset Volleyball wraps the calendar Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the same location.
Looking ahead to mid-September events
Sept. 17: Adult Drop-In Art, 6 to 7 p.m., Lakewood Ranch Library, 16410 Rangeland Parkway. Free.
Sept. 18: FORE the Environment Golf Tournament, 8 a.m., River Club Golf Course, 6600 River Club Blvd. Entry is $150 per player or $500 per foursome. Proceeds support Keep Manatee Beautiful.
Sept. 18: Laughs & Courses comedy dinner, 7 to 10 p.m., Grove, 10670 Boardwalk Loop. Three-course dinner with stand-up from Trish Keating, Nathan Wallace and headliner Johnny B. Ages 21 and up. Tickets are $125.
Sept. 19: Plants & Prosecco succulent-wreath workshop, 10 a.m. to noon, Grove. $50. Registration closes Monday, Sept. 14.
