Grove restaurant in Lakewood Ranch will host a five-course Creole dinner with live jazz and wine pairings on Oct. 2.
The event, called "A Taste of New Orleans," starts at 7 p.m. in the Grove Ballroom at 10670 Boardwalk Loop. Tickets cost $125 per person, plus tax and a 20% service charge.
Dinner Pays Tribute to Louisiana Native
The evening is a tribute to general manager Mark Armato, a Louisiana native. Executive chef Greg Campbell shaped the menu around Armato's favorite dishes, SRQ Magazine reported.
"The whole point is to showcase Mark's background and history," Campbell told SRQ Magazine.
Campbell also serves as executive chef and director of operations at Pier 22 in downtown Bradenton. He built the Grove menu to move through classic Creole territory, with each course paired with wine.
Menu Moves Through Five Creole-Inspired Courses
Shrimp Arnaud opens the meal, chilled and dressed in Creole remoulade alongside a Crémant de Bourgogne rosé. Oysters Bienville follow, baked in béchamel. The third course is redfish meunière served over jumbo lump crab.
Then comes what Campbell calls "Death by Gumbo," his take on Louisiana chef John Folse's stuffed quail in a dark roux. Campbell told SRQ Magazine the steps to create the dish are difficult to execute well, which is how it earned the name.
The evening closes with bananas foster, flamed tableside with rum.
Jazz Ensemble to Perform During Dinner
Sarasota-based jazz ensemble the John Reece Project will perform throughout the dinner. The group is led by saxophonist and harmonica player John Reece and blends jazz, blues, funk, pop and soul.
Seats are limited.
Event Restricted to Guests 21 and Older
The event is 21 and older only, with a cash bar available, according to the restaurant's Facebook page. Reservations are available at grovelwr.com or by calling 941-893-4321.
