Bread Bandits, the Sarasota artisan bakery known for its sourdough and pistachio croissants, opened a takeaway location at 8130 Lakewood Main St., Suite 103, in Lakewood Ranch on Aug. 1.

It's the micro-bakery's second storefront.

Co-owners Jules Thuet and Brad Rutledge, Toronto natives who relocated to Sarasota during the pandemic, built the brand at the Sunday farmers' market before securing a permanent home on Main Street alongside their original shop at 3546 S. Osprey Ave. in Sarasota. The Bradenton Herald reported on Tuesday, Aug. 11, that the bakery uses imported flour from France and 120-year-old family recipes. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune also covered the opening on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The Lakewood Ranch location offers sourdough loaves, pastries including pistachio croissants, and parbaked breads customers can finish baking at home. The official Lakewood Ranch community Facebook page noted the bakery had built a following at the Sunday market before the storefront opened.

Bread Bandits is open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The bakery won Platinum for Best Local Bread in the SRQ Magazine Best of 2026 awards under the Main Street category.

The opening adds to a growing food and retail cluster on Main Street. Main Street at Lakewood Ranch and Waterside Place together house 68 restaurants and shops, according to a July 2026 Your Observer report citing RCLCO Real Estate Consulting data. RCLCO's midyear report ranked Lakewood Ranch No. 2 overall among master-planned communities nationwide, with 1,064 home sales, and called it the nation's top-selling multigenerational master-planned community.

"Lakewood Ranch is a trusted, high-performing community with the planning discipline, lifestyle infrastructure, and long-term momentum to give buyers confidence in their decision," Karl Pischke, principal at RCLCO Real Estate Consulting, said in July when the mid-year rankings were released.
