Families can pick up free school supplies and enjoy kids' activities at the Lakewood Ranch YMCA on Aug. 1.

The branch's "Endless Summer" community event runs from 9 a.m. to noon at 5100 Lakewood Ranch Blvd. Admission is free. The YMCA is offering activities for children, snacks, giveaways and free school supplies while they last, according to the Lakewood Ranch YMCA.
Staff will also be on hand to share information about the YMCA's before- and after-school programs and fall activities.
Timing lines up with the school calendar
Manatee County's first day of school falls on Aug. 10, giving families just over a week to check items off the supply list. Nationally, families expect to spend an average of $252 per child on back-to-school purchases this year, according to a KPMG Consumer Pulse survey.
Part of a broader YMCA effort
The Lakewood Ranch event follows a similar "Endless Summer" gathering held at the Bradenton YMCA on July 25, which offered the same format of free supplies, kids' activities and program information. The back-to-school events are part of a broader effort by the YMCA of Southwest Florida, which operates 10 locations across the region.
